Dude is a character I created in my middle grade novel.

Diana Beebe, Mermaids Don't Do Windows, MDDW, Diana Beebe's Blog, science fiction, fantasy, young adultThe winged horse, Pegasus, was created by the Greek god Poseidon and Medusa (he sprung from her neck after Perseus took her snake-haired head).

The Greek hero Bellerophon captured Pegasus with a little help from Poseidon and Athena. Then he rode the winged horse to defeat Chimera. (The movie Clash of the Titans didn’t follow the original myths very well.)

Another legend says that Pegasus can create springs by striking his hooves on the ground. His father is the god of horses and seas, after all.

Percy Jackson in Sea of Monsters rescues and befriends Blackjack, a black winged horse with an attitude. When Percy rides Blackjack, it’s the only time he is safe to be in the air. Zeus doesn’t like his brother’s kid taking up his air space. Since I just mentioned this book series in the post for O, I couldn’t leave him out of this one.
