R is for Rompo

Diana Beebe, Mermaids Don't Do Windows, MDDW, Diana Beebe's Blog, science fiction, fantasy, young adultA Rompo is a mythological beast found in stories in Africa and India.

It has the head of a hare, human ears, a skeleton-like body, the front arms of a badger, and the rear legs of a bear.

Its diet is solely human corpses, and it croons softly as it eats. I’m not sure who got close enough to one to find this out!

Old world porcupines might have inspired this legendary beast. Remind me to avoid those porcupines when they’re eating….

What would you do if you saw a Rompo? What other creatures have been misidentified as monstrous beasts (although I’ve never seen a porcupine like that!)?
