H is for Hippocampus

Diana Beebe, Mermaids Don't Do Windows, MDDW, Diana Beebe's Blog, science fiction, fantasy, young adultThe perfect sea pet!

The Etruscans sometimes gave the beasts wings (the Trevi Fountain in Rome has some! I would love to see that someday.)

The name is from the Greek word that means “horse monster.” Even though it’s sometimes called a seahorse, that can be confused with the cute little fish.

In Scotland, there are Pictish stone carvings of this creature. No one knows if the Picts already had myths about them or if the Romans brought them over. Those Picts weren’t over-sharers, so we’ll never know.

I just adore these creatures! šŸ˜€

Would you want your very own horse monster? Have you seen the Trevi Fountain?
