10 Books that Have Impacted My Life

On Facebook, people are tagging other people to post the 10 books that have made a lasting impression on their lives.

Diana Beebe's Blog, Diana Beebe, science fiction, middle grade fantasy, fantasyI was tagged three times, so I figured I’d share it here. I think I posted a list on Facebook sometime last year, but that place is a nightmare to search for old content. Now I’ll be able to find my list, if I get tagged again. Although, I might decide to add more current books, too.

I cannot pick just 10 books! Cruel limitation! Cruel, I tell you!

The cool ladies who tagged me are: Julie Glover, Debra Kristi, and my friend Andrea. I have had the great privilege of hanging out with and learning from these friends. If you’ve never checked out Julie’s and Debra’s blogs, you should.

Here are 10 books that have stayed with me. Some I’ve read so many times the covers have fallen off. I make no apologies for the seeming randomness of genre (seriously, you’re here reading this–would you expect anything less?).

In no significant order:

  1. Diana Beebe's Blog, Diana Beebe, science fiction, middle grade fantasy, fantasyIron Cage by Andre Norton (Her Star Ka’atz books were my first taste of science fiction.)
  2. Dragonflight by Ann McCaffrey (mostly the entire series and everything else she wrote)
  3. The Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin (same)
  4. The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas
  5. The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton
  6. Le Morte d’Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory
  7. The Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell
  8. The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper
  9. Lilith’s Brood by Octavia Butler
  10. Graceling by Kristin Cashore

Having to pick only 10 wasn’t easy. What’s books would you put on your list?

  1. How in the world are you supposed to only pick 10 books? How about the ten books this week that changed my life? *winks*

  2. Such a hard challenge, isn’t it? You have listed some great books! Thanks for sharing. I haven’t read the Dragonflight series but it was recently recommended to me. I may have to crack that book open. Especially since it made your top ten. 🙂

It wasn’t easy limiting the list. O_o

You should read the Dragonriders of Pern books! I used to read them as many in the series as I could every year. They are my comfy books.

  3. Interesting list. And sadly, I’ve only read 3 of those. Why haven’t I read The Three Musketeers? I must remedy that!

    Fun to see your choices!

I’m glad I can add even more books to your teetering TBR pile. 😉
