Loving What I Do: My Writing Process

Diana Beebe's Blog, Mermaids Don't Do Windows, Diana Beebe, science fiction, middle grade fantasy, fantasy I love what I do, so I was thrilled when my writer friend Kristin Nador asked me to participate in this “My Writing Process – Blog Tour.”

Go check out Kristin’s blog called “Kristin Nador Writes Anywhere” (www.kristinnador.com)–she really does write anywhere.

1) What am I working on?

My fantasy, Hunter Moon, is almost finished. I’ve been heavy in revisions since I decided my antagonist was superfluous and my main character wasn’t very likeable. I’m also wrapping up revisions on my middle grade book (State Secret Keepers #1).

2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?

Diana Beebe's Blog, Mermaids Don't Do Windows, Diana Beebe, science fiction, middle grade fantasy, fantasyStrong female characters aren’t that unusual, but I like to create stories where the women or girls succeed when they embrace a partnership with someone else, someone other. That other person can be a man, a brother, a sister, a friend, or somethingone else. It’s more about overcoming differences and finding harmony.

3) Why do I write what I do?

Because I love these stories and they play in my thought until I start writing them down. I love that Science Fiction and Fantasy give me freedom to create new universe laws.  I write middle grade stories for my girls (especially Armadillo). Mockingbird and Bluebonnet are old enough for Young Adult stories, and I have a few ideas for them.

4) How does your writing process work?

Since I work full time during the day, freelance sometimes, and do a million other things, I write whenever and wherever I can. I’m also somewhere between a pantser (write wherever the characters lead me) and a plotter (trying to guide the characters into a more coherent plan). Maybe I’m a recovering pantser. 😀

Next Monday, my writing pals are going to post their answers. Go check out their blogs (now and later!):

  • Debra Kristi—A work-in-progress superhero mom by day, a married pre-princess Cinderella by night, with a 24/7 cast of characters dictating stories in her head.
  • Kristy K. James—Former cop wannabe – turned mom – turned writer, spinning tales in the midst of a chaotic zoo full of stray animals she couldn’t say no to.

Thanks again, Kristin, for asking me to join the blog hop. It was fun! 🙂
