On Life, the Universe & Everything and Also Being Mostly Harmless

As you may know, I recently accepted challenges that life, the universe, and everything wanted to throw at me. I’m still wishing for a stunt double or minions to help me out from time to time.

So in the process of not having stunt doubles to help me with recent challenges, I’ve let Mermaids Don’t Do Windows grow really, really quiet.Diana Beebe's Blog, Diana Beebe, science fiction, middle grade fantasy, fantasy, Mermaids Don't Do Windows

I’m so sorry to disappear like that.

My promise to post something every third day (hey, it’s a schedule of sorts) got tossed out the window while life, the universe, and everything came in.

Yeah, I signed up for NaNoWriMo–the challenge to write 50,000 words in November.

Bwhahahahahahaha

Every time I think I can pull off that many words in a month, I get life, the universe and everything instead. I have a few new words (lots of them), so I win with myself. I even planned and plotted ahead of time. (I did write 50k in a month once, but it wasn’t a NaNoWriMo month.)

Sometimes Always, family comes first, which means I haven’t been online much (except lurking from my phone apps, which is really unsatisfying), my word count is lower than expected, and my blog reading is waaaaaay behind (and there have been some great posts that have deserved more than the quick scan I’ve allowed myself). Yeah, so that’s why I haven’t posted anything in a while…

The spam tried to get in, too–over 500 spam hits in a week and 250 just over the weekend. Spammers are getting cleverer by plagiarizing snippets of text out there for their comments now. I suppose if they can’t handle the grammar on their own, they’ll steal words from someone else to trick the spam filters. Dang, I emptied the spamminess before taking a screen shot of the movie summary one. Then there are the flattering ones:

Don’t worry. I reckon it’s all mostly harmless. πŸ˜›

Mostly harmless. Whatever. Spam is definitely annoying.

And the answer is 42.

What was the question?

Sorry, I couldn’t resist after things started sounding like references to Douglas Adams’s Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy books. If you’ve never read the trilogy that has more than three books, you should.

(It’s much better than the movie, in case you were wondering… Also, “Adams’s” is mostly correct for making a last name possessive. πŸ˜€ )

All the things!

Thanksgiving, I hosted my in-laws and a dear friend. It was a small, cozy event. We used the good china—I don’t remember the last time we did that. πŸ™‚ Also, I made sweet potato casserole from the ones I grew in my garden. (I’ll post about that later this week.)

I even managed a few loads of laundry AND discovered a leak in my washer. Oh, yes….there’s a hole in the bucket, well, the boot, actually. Don’t worry. I’ll explain soon when we fix that hole. Because, yeah, we’re gonna do it ourselves. I think the washer felt left out after the dryer got its very own repair post.

You must know that I’m not complaining. Seriously, I’m not. In fact, I’m taking on more schtuff that’s mostly harmless. What’s even more twisted is that I wouldn’t have it any other way.

How are things going with you? I’d love to hear how your Thanksgiving was. Did you brave the Black Friday insanity?Β (I didn’t. Nope. I’m insane enough already.)
